Formalizing the MJHS Professional Preceptorship Program

I built a centralized Academy-led workforce development model connecting professional education, internal mobility, clinical learning, stakeholder alignment, and organizational ROI measurement.

Positioning

Workforce development infrastructure, not a one-off practicum process.

I built this as an EmpowerED stretch assignment after seeing a gap in how preceptorship opportunities were requested, managed, matched, and tracked. The opportunity was bigger than placement coordination. It was a chance to connect professional education, internal mobility, clinical learning, stakeholder alignment, and organizational ROI measurement through a centralized MJHS Academy-led model.

What this work called for

The previous state was decentralized, informal, and inconsistent. Preceptorship opportunities were often handled through self-directed outreach and informal networks, which limited data visibility, made demand harder to track, and created variation in how students, preceptors, program directors, and university partners moved through the process.

What I created

  • I moved the work into a centralized MJHS Academy-led model with standardized intake, matching, workflow, documentation, role clarity, and program tracking.
  • I created a Microsoft Forms intake process for internal candidates so requests could be captured, reviewed, and matched more consistently.
  • I mapped the workflow across the student, preceptor, MJHS Preceptorship Coordinator, program director, and university or college partner.
  • I designed weekly logs to track hours, roles observed, key activities, meetings, workflow and system reviews, and student reflections.
  • I built the model to support future measurement through student and business leader surveys, impact evaluation, and ROI-informed program refinement.

Soft launch scope

01 · Launch

11 operational business areas

Across MJHS and Elderplan participated in the February 2026 soft launch.

02 · Practicum

2 graduate nursing students

Completed the inaugural administrative practicum through multiple operational rotations.

03 · Structure

120 hours

The practicum was built for approximately 6 weeks, with one student completing in 5 weeks.

What this shows about how I lead

  • I see the 30,000-foot view and translate it into a practical system people can use.
  • I identify gaps that sit between learning, operations, workforce development, and stakeholder ownership.
  • I put the right people into the right parts of the work so the model is not dependent on one person carrying everything.
  • I build infrastructure that makes work easier to request, manage, track, improve, and connect back to organizational value.
